This painting is a picture from the inside of the tomb looking out. It reminds me that I was once dead in my sins, and that through the sacrifice of Jesus on my behalf I too can have forgiveness and healing and new life!
Spring is the perfect time to celebrate this because the dead grass is slowly turning green, and bulbs that have been dry and cold all winter are reaching toward the light to bring us daffodils and tulips! All around us there are sounds smells and sights all about life beginning again.
The colors in this painting are gentle pastels, and the sun is streaming into the tomb, beckoning the viewer to come out into the light. This reminds me that death was not the end for Jesus, and it is not the end for us. God has other plans for us! There is life beyond the grave!
I think of my dear pastor who died last year of Covid, and awoke this year in the arms of the savior he loved with all of his heart. I imagine him decked out in his flamingo socks, with his arms raised, worshiping Jesus around the throne.
It has been a really hard year, from March 2020 to March 2021 being cooped up in the lockdown and then "walking on eggshells" around grocery stores and markets. We have learned to reach out to our friends and family in creative ways, and not take face time for granted. I learned to make the most of the time I have with people, and tell them how much I appreciate them while I have the chance.
This year we have lost so much, but we have learned so much, and I know God is working out His plans.
So here we are a year later, and it is just a relief to see that the world awakening to another spring!
I want to wish all of you a happy Resurrection day!
