I then did my own renditions of Diego Rivera's paintings of the events in the life of Zapata each 6' x 5'!. One is a scene where Zapata is rallying the peasants, leading them in song. The other is him leading them in battle to take the land back from the Hacienda Lords. The plan is to tile around them to look like the other archways in the restaurant.
I've never done a project this big before and I have to say, It was a challenge! I was even really brave and got up on scaffolding to paint the word "Bienvenidos" as a welcome on the outside of the restaurant. Not only that, It was a 90 minute drive each way to get out there to work on it! It ended up being 9 hours of drive time total!
At first I was trying to figure out how to work faster, harder, and get it done in 1 trip. But I heard the Lord telling me, "Just go paint,... go and see." So finally, I shifted my attitude. I decided to let go, and enjoy the process, focusing on what people and opportunities came my way. Turns out, life is so much more fun that way! I used down time to get to know some pretty amazing people!
Santana is the owner who has been working hard to get this restaurant looking perfect! Kenny is a handyman who whipped up an amazing frame for the portrait I painted. Sandy runs the cute kids shop "Hedgies" across the street. I had so many fun conversations, and I am glad I decided to loosen up and let God lead me to these people. I even brought my parents to the restaurant the last day, and we got to pray a blessing on this new business! What a wonderful experience! Funny how I have to learn lessons like "People are more important than productivity" over and over again!
