-I love plastic grapes! I have 4 sets of them. I almost hated to spray-paint over them! But for the sake of art..... I did! I wanted to do a diptych (a two paneled painting) so I put two canvases together to begin the process! This has been my process lately for my work, so I thought I'd share it with you! I start with a loose under-painting. This part is really fun because I get to play with colors and brushstrokes, just trying to get the feeling down on the canvas of what I am expressing. Then I used a bunch of plastic grapes as a mask to spray-paint forms onto the canvas. My yellow grapes are purple now! The details in the grapes were beautiful (and time consuming) with the light behind them. I worked from photographs online of vineyard grapes that were ripening. The inspiration behind this painting is based on a Bible verse that talks about staying close to the father's love so we can have abundant life. and I thought about the verse as I painted the little details. John 15:1-3 "“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful." We are to stay connected to Him in order to have fruit full lives. v 5 says “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing." |
I found so much joy in painting this and I hope it conveys that in the work itself.... the fruit of my labors!
John 15:16 says "I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last."
