The ladies ministry usually meets once a month, but because of Covid it has been a while since we have seen each other. It was so nice to connect again; we spaced the tables for social distancing and I hosted my first painting party!
I read in Corinthians 12 about how each of us has a special place in God's kingdom based on our unique gifts. Each person got a 9x12" canvas that had a light abstract sketch on it. They were encouraged to paint it in colors/patterns/textures that reflect who they are.
We turned on quiet music and focused in on creating and listening to what the Holy Spirit had to say about who we are. We were just getting into our state of flow..... when a bat swooped in over our heads. There were screams and some hid under tables! So much for quiet reflection! Thankfully, there was one woman there who could help me corral the intruder. We chased him into another room, caught him and took him outside!
We did recover from the interruption, and each person brought their piece together with the rest. Little by little as people finished we saw the image appear. We talked about how when someone doesn't bring their gifts there is a hole in the full picture! Each of us is important in the body of Christ. We don't always know how our work impacts the world, but when we step back, we can see how we all fit together to show the world a picture of Christ!
This was a really large group, but I also would like to do small group parties where each person created their own painting. My hope is that each person will find encouragement and understanding as they access their creative side. Are you interested in doing a small group painting party with your family or friends? If you click on it you can see a detail close up of the individual paintings!
What colors would you choose if you were doing a painting that represented you?
