In the book of Daniel, we read that king Nebuchadnezzar had been king over all of the known world at the time. He was filled with pride over his accomplishments, but God warned him in a dream, not to become too proud, but to know that God had allowed him to rise to power, and God can take it away.
He dreamed that he was a tree that was cut down. Daniel interprets his dream and warns him “‘King Nebuchadnezzar, please accept my advice. Stop sinning and do what is right. Break from your wicked past and be merciful to the poor. Perhaps then you will continue to prosper." Daniel 4:27
Daniel 4:28 “But all these things did happen to King Nebuchadnezzar. 29 Twelve months later he was taking a walk on the flat roof of the royal palace in Babylon. As he looked out across the city, he said, ‘Look at this great city of Babylon! By my own mighty power, I have built this beautiful city as my royal residence to display my majestic splendor.’ “While these words were still in his mouth, a voice called down from heaven, ‘O King Nebuchadnezzar, this message is for you! You are no longer ruler of this kingdom."
God made the king go mad for 7 years and act like a wild animal. That was until he repented. The king says in Daniel 4:37 “Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and glorify and honor the King of heaven. All his acts are just and true, and he is able to humble the proud.”
I thank God that He can do this work in a man's heart, even if it takes drastic measures! I hope that whoever our next president is will have advisors around him who can speak God's message to him, and remind him who is really in charge. Please remember to pray for your leaders, whether you like them or not, because God has them in leadership for a season, and for a reason. Pray that whoever leads us will "break from their wicked past and remember the poor," and have a humble heart to serve the people of the United states with wisdom and compassion!
