BUT, then, I come home and I start to sketch and paint, and I realized that I can labor over all of the details of a realistic painting, but its not as much fun for me, and really, it is feels like it is just copying. I want to make something new, that envokes emotion, something no one has ever seen before, something fun or breathtaking, that speaks to me.
Artists have a way of seeing things in a unique way, and communicating something in a voice that is more spiritual than logic. I want my art to show off, not just my unique voice, but God’s. I want my art to be the combination of what God has made, and what I can imagine. Inspired art is the window into the intersection of the two.
I am going to present something really wacky and abstract!
So here it is... Im calling it "A beautiful Mess"
I had just finished painting a series of work and I had my paper pallette in front of me, dried paint in globs where I had mixed colors and found the shades to say what was on my heart. I tore it out, and was about to throw it away, when I saw it. There in the mess was the beginnnings of something, it was vibrant and beautiful and loose and fun! I squinted at it, turning it around and around until I was sure. Yep, I saw a swan in the middle of the chaos, so I got out my brush and finished the swan. I felt her gliding serenly through such chaos. I saw her carrying her little ones through a storm. So I finished it, framed it and titled it, "Carry you through." It is now one of my favorite paintings because it is how I feel right now, carrying my family through the chaos of a pandemic, trying to keep my head up and stay positive for them so they will feel safe.
So, just for fun, I have kept my pallettes from this last 6 months and when they are full I hold them out and squint and wait to see what speaks to me. It is a blast!!! (and my husband thinks that I am disturbed) So I am going to have a whole show of pallate art! It is messy and chaotic, but I want to put it out there and see if you can see what I saw! Maybe you see something totally different!
This is going to be fun! It's like a game of I-SPY. Look at it first and decide what you see, then read the blog to see what I found!
An ink blot test can tell you a lot about a person. Abstract art is a lot like that too. So as I tell you what I found and embellished in these pallette paintings you might get an idea of where I am at. I think it would be fun to hear what you see too!
Comment below after you have seen the show, what did you think? Did you see anything different at first?
