We painted this fancy owl, and we talked and prayed over some wisdom from the book of Proverbs. The wing of our owl is photocopied scripture.
Check out how cute and different each owl turned out below. If you would like me to plan a fun event for your group contact me here!
James 1:5 says "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you."
While preparing this painting I was thinking about how much I ask God for wisdom. Lately it has been a lot! I ask a lot, but I don't always like hearing it through someone else who is giving me wisdom through correction and reproof. Sometimes I don't respond well; I take it personally, as if the person doesn't like who I am not just what I do. I withdraw, I get depressed, I hate on myself. That is why these verses in Proverbs have stuck out to me lately....
Prov 13:18 Poverty and shame will come to him who disdains correction, But he who regards a rebuke will be honored.
Prov. 10:17 He who keeps instruction is in the way of life, But he who refuses correction goes astray.
Growth mindset is hard for me. I really should try to see correction as someone cares enough about me to help me grow or relate differently, and that they are willing to risk approaching me about it because they trust me not to break the relationship over it. How can I evaluate someone's criticism of me to see if it is true, and then make necessary changes?
I am a concrete thinker, so I would rather someone figure out for me what I should do differently, rather than just tell me I am doing it wrong. But, I believe the wise thing to do is to take that feedback to the Lord and ask Him to show me what part is true, and what specifically I can do to change for the better.
Jesus help me have a heart of wisdom. Like the excellent wife, I want this to describe me someday...
Prov 31:26 She opens her mouth with wisdom, And on her tongue is the law of kindness.
Thanks for joining my journey!
