I felt like He was saying, “If YOU were going to design a butterfly, what would it look like? Show me something I haven’t seen.” WOW! Permission to do my own thing! This was so huge for me because I feel like I am doing this art for the Lord, and He is watching thinking, “I cant wait to see what she comes up with.” I feel like He is excited to watch me work, watch me create and re-imagine things in a way that only I can!
I even thought, maybe I could come up with some fun new idea that He would like, and in the new earth, He’ll say, “This one was inspired by the design that Deborah and I came up with together!”
As I have been painting and selling work this last year, I have learned so much! I have been in the Created to Thrive Mentoring group for over a year now and it has changed the way I look at my process. Now, I go into my studio and I feel like God and I are creating together. I am not merely trying to replicate what I have seen in photos, I am listening for something new that God might want to say and show me through the process. When I am done with a piece I feel like we have worked on it together, each brushstroke a memory of what I was meditating on as I painted.
"God cares much more that you create than what you create. Having you fulfill your divine design is the desire of the Father." - Matt Tommey
I think my work, and my skill and my style have improved and come into their own. It has been a fruitful year! I can’t wait to get back to the studio to see what He and I will come up with next!
Here is a sneak peek of my May show... it is a new series using spray paint and string to create a contemporary abstract background. This little fellow is playing in the April showers!
